Recently knighted Jedi Anakin Skywalker is assigned his own Jedi Padawan learner near the beginning of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS. The all-new sculpt is based on the computer-generated animation design for the character. The sculpt adequately captures the new look, which mixes elements of Japanese anime with Gerry Anderson-style marionettes. The major difference between Anakin here and in REVENGE OF THE SITH is that his hair is a little shorter, he wears gauntleted gloves on both hands, and sports yoke-style shoulder armor. While depicted in the film itself, Anakin's scar over his right eye is missing.

Hasbro Raising Prices on Sept. 1st |

July 22, 2008: Hasbro posted a higher-than-expected quarterly profit on Monday, helped by sales of toys tied to movies like the latest Indiana Jones film, but the company's shares fell after it said it would raise prices.
Hasbro's chief executive, Brian Goldner, said in a conference call that the economic environment in the United States and overseas was "much more challenging" than the company anticipated.

Second-quarter profit jumped to $37.5 million, or 25 cents a share, from $4.8 million, or 3 cents a share, a year earlier, when the company took a charge of $36.5 million, or 21 cents a share, to repurchase warrants from Lucasfilm and Lucas Licensing.
Hasbro, the No. 2 American toy maker after Mattel, said sales rose 13 percent, to $784.3 million.
American and Canadian sales were up 11 percent, to $467.7 million, while sales in international markets increased 15 percent to $293.7 million, aided by the weak dollar.
Effective Sept. 1, Hasbro, whose brands include Playskool and Littlest Pet Shop, will raise prices in the mid-single digits in percentage terms to protect its margins, said David Hargreaves, chief operating officer and chief financial officer.
Mattel raised prices on most of its products in the mid- to high single digits in June.

New OT & PT DVD Box Sets in November |

E-tailer DVD Empire has posted pix of two new Star Wars box sets coming on November 11th. The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy and Star Wars Trilogy sets will repackage the previously released two-disc sets of the Prequel Trilogy for the first time in one collection. The new Original Trilogy set will collect the two-disc, individual releases of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi from 2006. No new content will be included in either set. List price is $49.98 each.

Hasbro Q&A Goes Tri-Weekly |

"Moving forward, the Q&A will operate on a 3-week schedule, with questions due on Fridays by 2 p.m. EST (please note the new deadline time) and responses being returned on Tuesdays, a week and a half later.

Jedi Master Saesee Tiin leads his Clone Troopers in a daring ship-to-ship space walk in STAR WARS: CLONE WARS. With their Republic Destroyer breached, General Tiin dons armor and a space helmet to cross the short void of outer space between the two ships. This is a mostly new sculpt. The head is from the REVENGE OF THE SITH Saesee Tiin, while the body and helmet is all-new. The Clone Armor is a bit different from the regular Trooper armor, especially at the shoulders and belt.

"On August 21st, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners will be able to unleash the Force in the comfort of their own homes by downloading the demo of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed from Xbox Live or the Playstation Network. The demo gives players a taste of one of the early levels in the game: the TIE Fighter Construction Facility, under siege by a Jedi General named Rahm Kota. The Secret Apprentice has been sent by Darth Vader to hunt down and destroy the General, but is also told that, in order to remain a secret, he is to leave no witnesses".

As Star Wars: The Clone Wars hits theaters, we're pleased to present the latest crop of answers by Hasbro's Star Wars toy team to your questions:
1.) In a fantasy world where all deadlines are met, what's the fastest you can possibly take a brand new figure from design to prototype to production to store shelves?

2.) Looking at the pictures from SDCC of the Infinities #3/4 Leia and Vader Comic Pack, although we never see his lightsaber ignited in the comic, wouldn't it seem more likely that an all-white armored, redeemed Vader would also change his lightsaber blade's color from red to, say, Anakin's original blue?
3.) Some other STAR WARS licensees ran with the look of the CLONE WARS micro-series and created animation-style designs of Original Trilogy characters. Has Hasbro considered applying the new, CGI-animation style of THE CLONE WARS to figures of Luke, Princess Leia, or Darth Vader?

Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith, duels his son, Luke Skywalker, on the second Death Star in RETURN OF THE JEDI. The two battle with lightsaber before the evil Emperor Palpatine, while the Rebel Alliance attacks the Imperial battle station from space. The figure is a retooled version of the Vader from the REVENGE OF THE SITH line's Evolutions: Anakin Skywalker to Darth Vader set from 2005. It was previously retooled for the Thirtieth Anniversary Collection's EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE Commorative Tin Set (with Sebastian Shaw's EPISODE VI: RETURN OF THE JEDI head replaced by a retooled Hayden Christensen head from 2005's ROTS Deluxe "Rebuild Darth Vader!" figure) and then for the Thirtieth Anniversary Collection's Darth Vader 30th #16 basic line figure.

A pinched nerve in my back prevented me from posting these on Friday or Saturday, I'm afraid. But, I have now posted our first post-ComicCon Q&A in our forums. Hasbro answers the following questions:
1.) Does the upcoming Legacy Collection General Grievous (BD #25) figure come with a cape? If so, is it plastic or softgoods? Does the figure itself have interchangeable arms, as "The Clone Wars" version does?

2.) The Build-a-Droid C-3PX's shoulders are ball-jointed, similar to 4-LOM's. Could a similar design be used to produce a movie-accurate ROTS armored Darth Vader, with the shoulder armor covering the ball-joints the way the two droids' shoulder-caulings do?
3.) Any idea on how soon we might see AOTC/ROTS-accurate figures of Owen Lars and Beru Whitesun Lars?
